Squash & Stretch Rubber Ball

Rubber Ball

This rubber ball is animated to squash and stretch when it is bouncing. This ball is created by grouping itself twice. The two group are respectively named, translate ball gp and rotation ball gp. In order for the ball to be able to squash and stretch, Maya allows me to create a deformer. Under the animation tab, there is a create deformer option. In the option, selecting the non-linear followed by the squash option. A squash handle will be form within my rubber ball. By changing its factor within the range of -1 to 1. a squash and stretch effect will be made. To make the ball look more realistic, the

Week 12 E-learning Lab 2 Reflection

Reflection

1) Why is squash and stretch so useful in animation?

It is important because it is happening in real life. However,it is an effect that happen too fast that we couldn't see with our naked eyes. Therefore, squash and stretch allows an object to be more realistic. With the help of squash and stretch, an object will be able to have a sense of weight, mass or velocity.

The amount of squash and stretch effect is determine by the weight and material the object is made of. It is also determine by the amount of gravity is acting on it.Adding the squash and stretch effect allows the object to have more flexibility and bounciness.

2) Think of a situation in which extreme squash and stretch could be applied to a character - try to be original.

A situation that extreme squash and stretch could be applied to a character is when an object is thrown against a hard surface, example a person being punched, or an egg being thrown on the floor.

3) Think of an animation example where squash and stretch would NOT be appropriate

A animation example where squash and stretch would not be appropriate is when a solid and hard object is thrown on the floor. Example a brick, or a metal rod. When this object hits the floor, due to its material, it will not bounce hence, squash and stretch will not be appropriate.

4) If squash and stretch doesn't really happen so obviously in real life, why do you think is it so effective in animation?

It is so effective as it exaggerates the motion of the object so that it allows the audience will have a better understanding of the object. It will also help to draw attention of the audience. This will make animation more realistic and fun.

My Toy Room

My Toy Room

A rendering of my toy room is shown below. This toy room is made using a cube and by changing its height and width. Next, 3 faces was deleted, the top, side and front. By deleting this 3 sides, a cornered room is created. The windows are created using the edge loop tool to divide the room in to 3 parts and selecting the faces to delete. The scenery of the room is made using a plank and by changing it material into a file. I had imported the toy car, gear, toy train, toy block ,track, cardboard box , the bowl and also created 2 ball with the material of phong and phongE . The lighting of the room is made using two different ambient light. One on the left and the other at the right.

A screen capture of my toy room's hypershade is shown below. In my toy room, there are lots of different material used for each toy. Hence, naming the respective material is very important.

Tennis Ball Crossing Over

Tennis Ball (I)

The tennis ball is being animated to cross over the red net. This is made by setting the key frame and frame 1 when the ball is at its original position. Next, move the ball to the ending position that i want and move to frame 72 to set the key frame. Just by doing this, Maya will animate the middle portion itself . The tennis ball will be able to move from left to right. However, at frame 36, we need to set another key frame  This time round, the ball translate Y will need to be change and move upwards.
